As a forex day-trader I’m interested in the possibility of diversifying into other dynamic, high-volume non-stock securities. Commodities seem to fit the bill.

Sure. Get a commodities account and get started. No special markets for small investors, everyone plays in the same sandbox. Futures are a much FAIRER market than forex. Proceed slowly at the beginning, each commodity has its own flavor.
